"why do we leave democracy behind when we go to work?" hit hard

This is what human dignity looks like.

in the US, the "media" likes to criticize Russian oligarchs. But we essentially have the exact same thing here with our ultra wealthy owner CEO class... Hmm…

I have only one quibble with what these workers are saying: They feel they are lucky to have a cooperative, but they FOUGHT for that cooperative. That's not luck, that's a collective will to FIGHT to make workers' lives better. That's not luck, it's very hard but necessary work. We can do this, too.

I am an Italian living in Emilia Romagna. Thank you for showing this to so many people.
@niccolomariotti1880
Great to see a foreign channel reporting on a thing that I, as an Italian, I always considered a normal thing. And props to you guys for giving a spot of light to the issue that the people in the GKN factory are facing. That resonates with me 'cause it's like 20 minutes from where I live.

Partly true, many Americans define our system as "socialist" because they can't understand a system where taxes go towards welfare that's more complex than "public schools exist" and "50% of my taxes go towards weapons or the military." This video greatly romanticizes our system because, if we look at the data, cooperatives are many, large, and scattered across the country, but they rarely come close to the profits of mega-businesses or chain stores.

My husband worked for an employee-owned very large corporation here in Western Canada, and it was the best job he's ever had. We had shares in the company, and we received dividends from the company - the profits were truly shared, not just funnelled into the C-suites and stockholders.

I know right? 😂 People think as if this is some kind of progressive idea where in fact that should be the basic socioeconomic standard.

Accorrding to the DSM5 Hoarding is a mental illness. An infinite, never-ending desire to own as much money, power, and influence as you possibly can to destroy other human beings
Behind Italy’s beauty (and parmesan) is a radical tradition of cooperatives. In some areas, they make up nearly a fifth of the GDP. We went to Emilia-Romagna, one of the richest regions in the country, to investigate how Italy’s workers built a more democratic economy. Many thanks to the Bologna Film Commission and the City of Reggio Emilia for the support and for the assistance.
